Faelar traveled to Faeurn in 1150 at the age of 119 by ship, arriving in Waterdeep
on a day noted in Waterdeep history by the arrival of Khelben Arunsun, as he
was then known. Khelben and Faelar met on that day, and it was an inauspicious
beginning to a centuries long friendship. Faelar was still feeing a bit worn
from the sea journey, nor was he much impressed by what he could see of Waterdeep.
Even though he had been trained for his mission, the natural superiority of
the Tel'Quessir gave him an attitude that didn't reflect reality.
Khelben and his entourage were stopped in the middle of a busy street long since
built over, and Faelar rudely but quite properly by his belief system demanded
that the N'Tel'Quessir get out of his way.
Khelben merely waved a hand, and the sun elf found himself levitated forty feet
into the air. The archmage left him there, floating in the middle of the city,
for two days before returning to see if the elf's attitude had changed. Indeed,
two days and nights in the rain, and over a jeering human and dwarven populace
had taken some of the wind out of Faelar's sails. Khelben lowers the elf and
offers him shelter by way of apology, which Faelar, grumpy, shivering but chastened,
accepts. Over the weeks, Khelben noticed a strong but latent arcane ability
in Faelar and offers to teach him. Faelar, intrigued and cognizant of his mission
in the Realms, accepted and began an apprenticeship with one of the premier
archmages of Toril.
Faelar was present in Arunson Tower when the Malaugrym attack in a prelude to the Harpstar Wars; although too inexperienced to provide much in the way of power, he provided what aid he could to Khelben, Elminster and the others, including making sure that spellcasting components were kept available, food and drink were at hand and casting spells to provide arcane protection to those who used their power for more offensive magics. Faelar learned how to fight the Malaugrym, which he put to good use three years later at the start of the Harpstar Wars. In 1184, Faelar was pursuing a Malaugrym near Myth Drannor when he triggered a magical trap which caught him in an imprisonment spell. He was imprisoned for thirty-six years before being found and released by a deep-delving group of Harpers. Although the Malaugrym were long gone, Faelar's emtombment had been set to trigger alarms throughout the local Underdark realm. The rescuers and rescured were beset by bands of drow, ithilids and undead. The journey out of the Underdark took seven months of fighting and sneaking. Two of the Harpers were lost, and another killed but brought back to the surface. The group emerged in the Spine of the North mountains and managed to lose their pursuers on the surface. They made their way to Silverymoon where they parted ways, with Faelar returning to Waterdeep and his master Khelben, and the Harpers back to their various home locations.
In 1222, Faelar met a young human ranger named Ardagast Falconhand and along
with others, formed the party known as the Seven Blades and began adventuring
in the wilds of the North. They enjoyed much success in raids into some of the
older, long dead nations of the North, killing many foes and recapturing much
treasure that had been lost.
Two of the more memorable adventures included an expedition into the Trollfens
to rescue a traveling troupe of players and musicians who were slowly being
eaten one by one, and a trip deep into the Underdark to steal the Helm of Longseeing
from a drow family enclave while laying the blame on a nest of ithilids. They
returned two months later to kill the survivors and loot both sides. The Falconhand
family heirloom sword known as Illfater was acquired on this last trip.
In 1225, Faelar happened to meet the diviner Melegaunt Tanthul, who had arrived on Toril from a different material plane to study the Forgotten Realms. The sun elf spent eight years traveling with Melegaunt, learning much about the lands of Faerun and the lands of Melegaunt's home plane. Faelar accompanined Melegaunt on his trip to Kara-tur, where the pair spent almost a year in the lands of the Emperor. Faelar was very intrigued by the regimented society of the Shou and neighboring lands, so totally different than the free society that the Elves enjoy. Faelar traveled from Shou to every country between and Chult and returned to the North in 1233. He spent the next two years in Evereska, chronicling his adventures in a work entitled "The Silk Road". Several copies were made and reside in libraries in Silverymoon, Waterdeep and Candlekeep.
In the Year of the Black Horde, 1235 DR, a massive orc army invaded the West
from Silverymoon down to Amn and Calimsham. Faelar left Evereska to lead a small
band of moon elf mages and archers against the orcs. The troop fought with the
armies of Silverymoon to help release that blessed city from the orc siege.
Silverymoon became one of his favorite places in Faerun after that, and he returned
there many times in the next 140 years. In 1243, Faelar journeyed inland alone
to the Sea of Fallen Stars and joined another adventuring band called Red Arrow,
after an affectation all of the bow users adopted.
They were a rather well-traveled group, adventuring from the Sea of Fallen Stars
to the Sword Coast. One successful expedition into the old city of Keczulla
in Amn resulted in the expulsion of the trolls and other monsters and the resettlement
of that city as a caravan stop. The party's greatest triumph occurred in 1247
where they ended the rule of Anaglathos in Turmish by slaying the wyrm. Anaglathos
had acquired a massive fortune that the pary claimed, but the newly-freed citizens
of Turmish claimed it for their own. The party barely escaped with their lives
and as much treasure as they could stuff in their packs. Faelar returned to
Waterdeep in DR 1249, and was living there when he was recalled to Evermeet
in DR 1250.
Upon his return to Evermeet, Faelar began his training as an Eldritch Knight
as a reward for his service in the lands of the N'Tel'Quessir.
He assumed duty with the Defenders of Evermeet on the island of Sumbar with
the eagle-flying defenders stationed there. He served in this role for the next
fifty years, spending his furloughs in the capital city of Leuthilspar. In 1274,
he wed a childhold love, Annallel. She moved in with his parents at the Elven
Court. Unusually quickly for elves, they welcomed the arrival of twin sons Faelan
and Faelel only fifteen years after they wed. Faelar spent as much time with
his family as he could, but his duties on Sumbar only allowed him a few months
per year with them.
Faelar is sent back to Faerun in 1300 DR where he reunites with his old master and friend Khelben, now known as Blackstaff, and joins in the festivities at the wedding of Khelben's son. He later joins with an experienced group of adventurers based in Waterdeep to explore Undermountain. In the midst of a battle after months of exploration, Faelar is deserted by the only other members of the group to survive as he fights off an offended nest of mind-flayers. Faelar barely escapes with his life and flees deep into the Underdark with the mindflayers at his heels. It is another four months of wandering the vast Underdark before Faelar escaped, coming back to the surface in the Dalelands. After spending some time recuperating at the court of Sylune and Aumry, chronicling the recent events in a journal he titled "The Dark Road", he joined an all-elven adventuring band called the Bladesuns, who raid the environs of the ancient elven city of Myth Drannor.
He spent thirteen years fighting drow and other evils in Cormanthor when he
is suddenly recalled to Evermeet to find that his sovereign, King Zoar, had
been murdered. He was called to serve the Queen as a member of her personal
bodyguard and served her as such for the next fourteen years. This allowed him
to spend much time with his family, watching his sons grow from childhood to
adolescence. The good times don't last, however, and in 1335 DR the elves of
Evereska seek to claim the Greycloak Hills for their own. Faelar was released
from duty to return to Faerun to aid in this task. He also resumed his role
as N'Tel'Quessir Ar'leriel in Faerun. In 1336 he was sent to the Forest Kingdom
Cormyr as the official representative of the Elven Court to attend the coronation
of King Azoun IV, whom he met briefly. Faelar returned to the North and to Silverymoon,
where he met and befriended a bard named Mintiper Moonsilver. They formed a
party that roamed the North, seeking out and destroying the enemies of civilized
folk.
Faelar bears the legacy of a peaceful encounter with barbarian Grandfather Tree
tribe, where he woke up after a wild, drunken revelry to find the tribal tattoo
on his right shoulder. No-one but his wife and Mintiper know that the tattoo
exists. In the Year of the Boot,
1343 DR, Mintiper, Faelar and three others were the sole survivors of the Moonlight
Men, a small force that fought and killed over four thousand orcs to save Silverymoon
from a previously undetected horde.
The five were accorded high honors by Alustriel, Lady of Silverymoon, and granted
permanent favored status while in the city.
In 1344, the race of Tel'Quessir decided that Faerun is no longer a fit home
and began the Retreat to Evermeet. Faelar was sent to Cormanthor to organize
and aid the Retreat of the elves living there who wish to leave. In 1350, he
is allowed to return to Everment.
Faelar detoured on the way home to spend a month in Shadowdale with the newly
arrived Elminster. The time is spent reminiscing about old times, and Faelar
discovered that the archmage is much older than he previously thought. The elven
warrior-mage returned to Evermeet to again serve the Queen in her guard. Faelar
spent the next twenty years in peace, as the Times of Troubles and the Crusade
against the Tuigan don't significantly impact Evermeet. He took several short
trips back to Waterdeep to visit Khelben, accompanying the archmage on his successful
quest to release Laeral Silverhand, and for the period following his resignation
as a Lord of Waterdeep and the formation of the Moonstars.
In 1371, Faelar's world was shattered. An army of drow and renegade sun elves
attacked Evermeet, causing great destruction and loss.
Faelar was instrumental in their defeat, but both of his sons, archers- in-training,
fell in the fighting against a powerful band of renegades. Although Faelar slew
the remnants of that band, he was unable to arrive in time to save his sons.
His wife, unforgiving in her grief, has turned from Faelar and life and is now
cloistered in seclusion, forever withdrawn from the world outside of the remote
forest monastery in northern Evermeet. Faelar was given no time to mourn, as
the land of Evereska was besieged by the phaerimm, and later the Shadovar lay
the shadowwall over the besieging phaerimm. With the help of powerful allies
in Waterdeep and Silverymoon, Faelar joined the attack against the Shadowwall,
raised the siege and destroyed the invading phaerimm. Faelar spent much of the
next year in mourning, isolated in Evereska. He has since been recalled to the
Queen's service, and he has joined the elven diplomatic enclave in Waterdeep
as the military advisor to the Ambassasdor. He lives in one of the residencies
of the mission, but journeys often to visit friends in Silverymoon, Evereska
and Cormanthor by the use of greater teleport spells.
