What happened at "Ascalorn" aka Hellgate Keep.
A group of adventurers joined forces with some harpers.

Dales ), Hendrick the Hand ( Thief of Baldur’s Gate), Melgrist the Conjuror(Silverymoon),

5 years ago the Harpers had come across an artifact which they wished to use to remove the threat of Hellgate Keep from the Realms for all time. It was an elven weapon forged before the Weeping Wars when the elven nations warred amoungst themselves for preeminence. The GateKeepers crystal. Three blue white crystals with strange triangular bases with a flickering light deep inside. Each powerful in their own but when joined they are capable of disjoining all magic inside there area of affect.
It had only been used once before in a long time past and resulted in the destruction of an elven city’s Mythal and the sack by the attacking elves. The pieces had then been thrown to the winds of the four corners of Faerun and even to other planes as the discharge of magic was so powerful. The Harper’s intended to use it again to tear down both the wards locking in the demons as well as the gates allowing them entrance into Faerun.
It worked after a fashion. The three Harpers (Alurial, Melgrist, and Hommen)
were completely destroyed in its use. The adventurer Garett was sucked into
a vortex leading to the hells and was not seen again for a couple of years.
Bengt the Bold was disintegrated by an enraged demon before he was pulled back
to his home plane. Hendrick the Hand was slain by a devious trap even before
the crystal was activated. Only the scout Faelar and the two adventurers Bergis
Mighty Thews and Ennelda the Enchantress made it out alive to tell the tale
of what had happened. Again the crystal was thrown to the corners of the planes.
The corrupted Mythal of ancient Ascalorn and all the magics of Hellgate were
destroyed.
The names in bold below are the ones who survived.
| Alurial (HARPER) | - Druidess of the Dales/ enchantress and also a Harper that died using the crystals shards of the Gatekeepers Crystal. She had spoken quite fondly of her older cousin Florian a priest and a monk living in the High Forest. |
| Melgrist the Conjuror(Silverymoon) (HARPER) | - who also died using the crystals. He had been a powerful sorceror and had spoken quite a lot of his brother Drance who was in the service of Lord Randal of DaggerDale. |
| Hommen Faerle (HARPER) | -(Half elf wizard/fighter Evereska) - who went by so many names that no one really knew which one he was really called by. He died in the use of the crystals. |
| Trevor the Ranger (HARPER) | Derrick's uncle. Died at Hellgate Keep. |
| Hendrick (the hand) (Friend of the Harpers) | - the warrior who had joined them as a free adventurer on the quest. He died from wounds received getting to Hellgate keep but had a son named Brendan who lived in Waterdeep. |

| Bergis Mighty Thew (Recruited) | - (his Uncle Erik's travelling name) A mage warrior of some reknown at the time but had not settled down in NeverWinter yet and taken up the trade of crafting magical items. |
