The
Thorn Within
Two vines planted side by side,
Fresh spring's growth to each other tied.
Love's fertile ground feeds their growth,
A fruiting goal drives them both.
Two vines grow close like one
Flowers blooming in the summer sun
Their sweetest berry ripens fast
Love forever it seems will last.
Two vines around themselves entwined
Bent by autumn winds unwind
Roots pulled loose, earth's love withheld
Shrivel and are inward compelled
Two vines wrap each other tight,
Curled against the winter night,
Fallen leaves, all buds asleep
Love's thorn within makes them weep.
